Ok, not that one. Richard Dawkins coined the term back in 1976 in his book ‘The selfish Gene’ the idea was that ideas in human cultures could be transmitted in a similar but different way to the way that genes are replicated between generations.

This is an important idea, because it can act as a bridge to help us understand how ideas and concepts about buildings are transferred through the ages. Ultimately it might help us to consider how certain building types and systems have ‘evolved’.
